Men's Golf Stands in 11th After Opening Day at Turning Stone

VERONA, N.Y. – Alabama State's men's golf team started the fall portion of their season at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri.

The Hornets completed their first two rounds on Sunday and entered the clubhouse in 11th place after shooting a 302 in the early round and following that with a 299 in the afternoon round.

Branson Ferrier led the Hornets with a 147 (72-75) and stands in 23rd place.  Edd Hackett's 149 (74-75) is only two strokes back, but is tied for 32nd.

Other golfers in the tournament include Mbongeni Maphosa (79/74-153) who is tied for 45th, Francis Berthiaum (79-75-154) who is tied for 48th and Andrei Collins (77-81-158) who enters tomorrow's round tied for 69th.

"We played well in spurts, but had a lot of errors," Head Coach Dr. Gary Grandison said.  "We had 19 birdies in the first round and another double figure amount of birdies in the second, so we proved we are capable of competing."

"It's our first time playing this course and we have a lot to figure out since this course is new to us."

The tournament concludes tomorrow at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate.  It is being played on the Par 72, 7,101 yards Kaluhyat Course and the Par 72, 6,833 yards Turning Stone Course.
