MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After jitters at the Jackson State Sonic Boom Invite, the Alabama State women's bowling team came onto the lanes with a top notch performance during the first day of the 2016 Hornet Classic hosted by our Lady Hornets.
Â
"Today's performance was light years from last weeks," said head coachÂ
Andrew Chatmon.Â
Â
"The ladies executed so much better and stayed with the training. Being at home could have made some difference, but I think that most of today's performance came from the fact that they are gaining experience and are relying on the training techniques."
Â
In a total team effort, the Lady Hornets finished the first day 5-0 and led all teams with a total pin count of 4,594.Â
Â
In their 10th win of the season, ASU defeated SWAC member Southern by knocking down 273 more pins giving them a 1065-792 win in the first game of bakers.
They are closely followed by C-USA competitor Louisiana Tech with a total pin count of 4,444 and a 4-1 record.
Â
The Lady Jaguars of Southern are in third place spot with a record of 3-2 and a total pin count of 4,360.Â
Â
The Texas Southern Lady Tigers have a total pin count of 4,206 placing them in the fourth place and FAMU (3,968), finished with a record of 2-3 to put them in the fifth place spot, while Alabama A&M went 0-5 with a pin count of 2,805 to finish in sixth.
The Lady Hornets' second game saw them winning over Alabama A&M (843-594), before defeating Florida A&M for their third win (863-718). ASU went on to defeat Texas Southern (876-842) and Tech for a second time (947-897).
"Hopefully, we will continue to execute throughout the rest of the weekend," Chatmon said.
The tournament will continue Saturday with the five game traditional team matches starting at 9:30 a.m. the games are being played at Brunswick Zone Bowling Lanes.
