Jasmine Peeples dominated with a season-high 18 points, 22 rebounds and seven blocks
to lead Alabama State to a Monday night victory against Prairie View A&M 65-54 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.Peeples' 22 rebounds tied a career-high while playing only 25 minutes.
Kayla Stephens produced a balanced game with eight points and eight rebounds.
Daniele Ewert nearly had a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds and
Ashanti Spencer added seven points off the bench that outscored Prairie View's bench 27-15.
The swarming defense of the Lady Hornets allowed the Lady Panthers to connect on only 14-of-58 (24.1%) total shots in this game where Alabama never trailed.
Lamaria Cole led Prairie View in scoring with 15 but shot a bleak 3-of-16 (18.75%) from the field.
With
Britney Wright out of the game, the Lady Hornets went on a 14-4 run, stemming from late in the third quarter to the five-minute-mark in the fourth quarter.
Stellar defense by ASU fueled their fourth quarter run.
Midway thru the third quarter, Wright was injured while driving into the paint. She would head to back due to an apparent eye injury but did return to the bench. She finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds in 23 minutes
While the resilient Lady Panthers continued to attack, the Lady Hornets responded by matching basket for basket.

Ewert and Stephens combined for seven of ASU's 14 total assists, picking the duties for guards dealing with foul trouble throughout the game.
Capping off the first half, Peeples rebounded her own missed shot twice before hitting a lay-up give to ASU a 32-19 lead going in half time.
Peeples nearly single-handedly outrebounded the Lady Panthers by snatching 14 first half rebounds. The Lady Hornets grabbed 36 rebounds.
The Lady Panthers entire team had only 17 total rebounds in first half.
Danielle Clark entered the game connecting on back-to-back 3-pointers in the second quarter.
ASU attacked quickly earning an early 6-0 at the start of the game before PVAMU battled back to shorten the Lady Hornets' 14-12 first quarter lead.
Alexus Parker scored the majority of PVAMU's first quarter with 10 of the total 12 points. She was limited to just three points after half time.
Wright scored six points while Peeples made two points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the first quarter.
ASU held PVAM to 4-16 (25%) shooting from the field and outrebounded the Lady Panthers 18-9 in the first quarter.
Alabama State will return to the court on the road to Itta Bena, Miss. as they face SWAC opponent Mississippi Valley State University at the Leflore County Civic Center.
