In-game updates will be made on the Alabama State athletics twitter handle @ASUBuzz.

The Lady Hornets (1-4) have largely played in close games thus far, having four of their outcomes all decided by a margin of two runs.

After its' dramatic 9-7 victory in eight innings against Eastern Michigan on Saturday courtesy of a three-run, walk off home run by Brittney Wilson, Alabama State was a mere out away from defeating Marshall on Sunday.

While the team has a collective .234 batting average, there have been several hitters who have started out strong.

Freshman Charlene Castro (4-for-12) and Wilson (3-for-9) led ASU in hitting as each hit .333 in the opening weekend.

Junior third baseman Kendall Core has begun to warm up.

After starting just 1-for-9, Core batted 3-for-6 on Sunday with two home runs and a double.

Her 13 career home runs have placed her fourth all-time in ASU history for that category.

Maddie Phelps (0-2, 4.34 ERA, 11 strikeouts) has logged the most innings (19.1) thus far for the Lady Hornets.

The Eagles (2-3) will hold their season home opener after playing in the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala. over the weekend.

Southern Miss lost to Florida A&M 9-7 in eight innings before being run-ruled by Central Arkansas 9-0 in five.

The Eagles bounced back with a convincing 17-1 victory against Ball State in five innings and then topped Belmont 4-1 on Saturday.

It wrapped up play with a 6-1 defeat to Lipscomb on Sunday.

Rachel Johnson is off to a hot start for Southern Miss as the junior outfielder is batting .545 (6-for-11) with four walks, two RBI and a stolen base to begin the season.

Junior right-handed pitcher Danielle Block (1-0, 2.42 ERA, 10 strikeouts) has led the Southern Miss staff.
