MONTGOMERY – The Alabama State tennis teams hosted different teams and came away with different outcomes as the Lady Hornets won for the second time this season when they defeated Savannah State and the Hornets fell for the second time in a loss to Young Harris.
Â
In women's action, the Lady Hornets evened their record at 2-2 with the win 6-1 over fellow-HBCU member Savannah State. The Lady Hornets jumped out quick earning the doubles point with 6-0 victories at both two and three doubles.
Â
ASU picked up quick singles wins at four, five and six to earn the four necessary points for the win.
Â
Due to an injury, the coaching staff made a slight change in the lineup and Matabe Aloachere moved into the sixth position where she picked up her first win of 2016 with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Â
At one singles
Arantxia Wijngaarde picked up her initial win of the season with a strong 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Â
"I thought the ladies came out with a lot of good energy and played very solid," Head Coach
Anuk Christiansz said. "We are trying to stay healthy so we held out a couple of players with nagging injuries, but that just shows how far the ladies have come where we can sit out two of our top six players and others just stepped right in and not miss a beat."
Â
"Everyone on the team works hard and today they were ready to go."

The men came out flat and it showed. Despite having 4-3 leads at both one and three doubles, the Hornets could not keep the momentum and fell 6-4 at both positions dropping the doubles point. That point turned out to be the difference in the 4-3 final score.
Â
The Hornets (0-2) continued to play from behind in singles play as they fell behind a set in all but one singles match and tried to play catch up, and even though they won three singles matches, they could not make up the loss of the doubles point.
Â
ASU did get a singles win at six singles when
Szabin Pusztay picked up his first collegiate victory with a 7-5, 6-1 win.
Â
Ronald Mataba was able to battle back from a set down to win the second set 6-4 and win the third set tie break 11-9. At one singles, ASU's
Takura Mlambo also fell in the first set only to come back and win the second set 6-2, and the third set by the identical 6-2 score.
Â
"I told the guys before the match they were going to come out flat, and that is what they did," Christiansz said. "I am a little disappointed in today's action. We are going to make some lineup changes even though we are early in the season, but I need to put this team in position to win these type of matches."
