HUNTSVILLE, AL – With the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Eastern Division title already in their clutches, the Lady Hornets softball team (23-23 overall, 14-1 SWAC) now turns their attention toward achieving their next season-long goal: wrapping up the best conference record in the SWAC.
Â
Alabama State will be looking to surpass Texas Southern (24-16 overall), who have already finished their conference portion of their schedule and finished at 16-2.Â
Â
The Lady Hornets will close out the regular season with a three-game road series in Huntsville at Alabama A&M starting Friday at 3 p.m.
Â
The series concludes with a Saturday twin bill scheduled for a noon start.Â

Â
The Lady Bulldogs (9-32 overall, 7-8 SWAC) still has plenty to play for too— in trying to secure the fourth and last remaining playoff spot in the East Division.
Â
One more AAMU victory or one more Jackson State (7-27 overall, 4-10 SWAC) loss would punch the Lady Bulldogs' ticket into the playoffs for the SWAC Tournament.Â
Â
Jackson State has a three-game series set with Alcorn State this weekend.Â
Â
Shortstop Tiana Sanders has had one of the finest seasons in the conference.
Â
The sophomore is ranked second in home runs with 10, is ranked third in runs scored with 28 and leads the SWAC in total bases with 78.
Â
Her .351 batting average and 29 RBI also leads the team in those categories.
Â
Alabama State has won the last three of four games versus AAMU last season including a 6-3 win in last year's SWAC Tournament.
Â
Laura Aguilar will be looking to secure the batting crown as she leads the SWAC in hits with 56.
Â
Teammate
Jenna Mae Thorne is second with 50 hits while Arkansas Pine Bluff's Tonnay Hawkins and Texas Southern's Haley Smith each had 48 hits apiece.Â
Â
Aguilar has already surpassed her career-high of hits in a single season. She had 51 hits in 2015.  Â
