JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State won nine consecutive matches this weekend at the JSU Sonic Boom Invitational before finishing as the runner-up in the tournament to Louisiana Tech.

After going through Baker play with four wins in five matches, the Lady Hornets won all five of their Traditional matches before heading into the best-of-seven play this afternoon. The Lady Hornets started the best-of-seven series with a 4-2 victory over Louisiana Tech, after splitting the first four games of the series. The Lady Hornets went on to win the series with wins in game six (194-174) and game seven (223-207).

The Lady Hornets dispatched Alabama A&M in the second round after falling the first game. Alabama State came back with wins in game two (223-176), three (245-122) and four (186-147) to take a commanding lead. They would go on to win the series with a 182-156 victory in the final game of the series for the 4-1 victory.

Alabama State would fall in their final match of the day to Louisiana Tech, 4-1, after coming back to win the fourth game of the series 188-178 after being down 3-0. However, Louisiana Tech won the final game to take the series and win the tournament.

Tiarra Watkins (1,042 pins) and
Jessica Sawmiller (1,039) pins finished second and third in the tournament, respectively.

Alabama State will return to action next weekend as they host the Hornet Classic, beginning Friday and running through Sunday.
