Lady Hornets host Hornet Classic this weekend

The home event will be the last until January

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Fresh off their second place finish last week at the JSU Sonic Boom Invitational, Alabama State will host the annual Hornet Classic this weekend at Brunswick Zone Montgomery Lanes.

Alabama State (17-9) enters the weekend after a second-place finish in last week's tournament, dropping just one match in the process prior to the best-of-seven format. The Lady Hornets reeled off nine consecutive victories while in Jackson (Miss.).

The Hornet Classic will be the final tournament of 2017, as the team will take off until January when they return to action in Arkansas. The tournament is also the only home tournament that the Lady Hornets will host this season.

The tournament will run similar to the first two tournaments the Lady Hornets have participated in this season. The opening day will feature Baker play with total pins, with day two featuring Traditional play.

The final day will be match play with a best of seven Baker match. The current season's NCAA playing rules will be used for competition and any tied matches will be broken using the NCAA modified Baker format.

The Lady Hornets will host 10 teams this weekend at the Hornet Classic. The tournament will feature Alabama A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Belmont Abbey, Florida A&M, Grambling State, Jackson State, Louisiana Tech, Lincoln Memorial, Southern and UAB.

The tournament begins Friday and runs through Sunday at Brunswick Zone Montgomery Lanes.
