Lady Hornets finish third at Hornet Classic

Alabama State won two of their three matches in best-of-seven format

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State finished in the top three of a tournament for the second consecutive week, finishing third in the Hornet Classic held at Brunswick Zone Montgomery Lanes over the weekend.

"It was up and down for us this weekend," Alabama State bowling coach Andrew Chatmon said. "We struggled, but we pulled it together and fought our way back into fourth place so we could give ourselves a chance to win.

"I feel like we should of won, but did not execute to the best of our ability. The girls did not quit which is a great thing. Other than that we had a pretty good weekend, went 10-2, which is a great weekend and finished place. Not where we wanted to be but we will keep working hard."

Alabama State, seeded fourth in the best-of-seven series, defeated Louisiana Tech to open the bracket format 4-3. After falling behind 2-0, Alabama State came back to win game three 203-197, before Louisiana Tech took a commanding 3-1 lead. However, the Lady Hornets were able to win the final three games, which included a 233-146 win in the seventh and deciding game.

The Lady Hornets fell to Lincoln Memorial in the following round 4-3 as they fell in the final game by just two pins, 217-215.

Alabama State bounced back with a 4-0 win over Louisiana Tech in the third place match as they opened the match with a 192-137 victory, and took a 2-0 lead with a 195-169 win in game two. In the third game, Alabama State won 181-168 before claiming the match with a 202-187 victory in the fourth game.

The Lady Hornets are now off until January, when they return to action at the Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro (Ark.).
