MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University baseball team will look to get back into the win column this weekend as the Hornets step out of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play and visit Houston in a three-game series starting on Friday at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.
Alabama State (7-11) enters the weekend off three straight losses as the Hornets dropped the final game at Jackson State last weekend and a two-game series against Army in Emerson, Ga.
In its last game, Alabama State rallied in the ninth, thanks in part to a
Ray Hernandez solo homer, to tie the game at 4. The Hornets got solid pitching throughout the game, but couldn't plate the winning run as the Black Knights completed the sweep with a 14-inning 5-4 victory at the Lakepoint Sports Complex.
Houston (10-5) has won its last two games. The Cougars picked up a 2-0 victory over No. 10 Baylor to conclude the three-game series with the Bears and followed that with a 6-5 win against McNeese State on Tuesday.
First pitch for Friday and Saturday's games are set for 6:30 p.m. from Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park. Sunday's start time is scheduled for noon.
After the series with Houston, Alabama State plays host to South Alabama on Tuesday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex before traveling next weekend to Itta Bena, Miss., to take on Mississippi Valley State in a key three-game SWAC series.
