ASU defeats Elmhurst during Day 1 of Music City Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama State University women's bowling team went 1-4 during the opening day of the 2017 Columbia Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
 
The Lady Hornets (51-54) opened the day with an 890-1,123 loss to McKendree. Alabama State bounced back in its next match with an 823-753 win over Elmhurst. However, the Lady Hornets closed out the day with three losses, falling to Lincoln (Mo.), 853-859, to Valparaiso, 794-855 and to Arkansas State, 806-911.
 
With a full field of 35 teams in the tournament, Alabama State sits in 31st with 4,166 total pins and averaging 166.6 during the five games played on Friday. Arkansas State currently leads the field, averaging a 203.4 pinfall and 5,084 total pins.
 
Friday's format was five, give-game baker matches. On Saturday, teams will continue play with five traditional matches starting at 9:30 a.m. Play concludes on Sunday with the format being a Best of the seven matches beginning at 8:30 a.m.
 
There will be live stream available at insidebowling.com and Mike Flanigan will be on hand to live stream some of the action. Teams will rotate through its spotlighted lanes with two games per round shown.
