Alabama State set to play host to Troy

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University baseball team will look to keep its win streak going on Tuesday when the Hornets play host to Troy University in a non-conference game at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Alabama State (17-15) has won 10 straight dating back to March 24, including sweeping three straight Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series. The Hornets are coming off a three-game road trip against Alabama A&M where Alabama State outscored the Bulldogs, 25-7, and captured its second consecutive Magic City Diamond Classic title.

Troy (16-14) enters the non-conference matchup having won three out of its last five games, including a 4-0 victory on Sunday at home against Georgia Southern. The Trojans edged Alabama on April 4, 12-11, but dropped the first two in the Sun Belt series to GSU, 5-3 and 6-3.

Alabama State will send Terrell McCall to the mound. The sophomore right-handed pitcher is 1-3 in seven starts this season with a 6.83 ERA. Troy will counter with right-hander Houston Mabray. The senior is 1-1 in six appearances with a 4.70 ERA.

In a series that started in 1993, Troy holds a 20-4 advantage and has won the last two games, both coming last season (8-0 and 3-1). The last Alabama State win at home against the Trojans came March 3, 2015 with the Hornets earning a 12-8 victory.

Alabama State will look to extend their longest win streak since 2015 on Tuesday.

First pitch from the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex is scheduled for 6 p.m.
