Hornets to visit Jacksonville State and South Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University baseball team will look to get back into the win column as the Hornets visit Jacksonville State on Tuesday, and South Alabama on Wednesday.

Alabama State (17-19) opened the month with five straight wins, but have lost their way in the last four games, with losses to Troy before dropping all three games to Jackson State, which dropped the Hornets into second place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) East Division.

The Hornets begin a stretch of six straight games on the road, starting Tuesday at Jacksonville State. Alabama State travels to Mobile on Wednesday to face South Alabama, while the road stretch continues on Friday as the Hornets enter a three-game non-conference series against Grambling State in New Orleans (La.). The team concludes its road journey's on Wednesday, April 26, in Birmingham against Samford.

Jacksonville State (18-14) went 1-2 over the weekend, but picked up the final game of the series against Southeast Louisiana. The Gamecocks pounded out 19 hits and scored 17 runs in the win against the Redhawks.

South Alabama (21-15) is seeking to sweep the home-and-home series against Alabama State, after the Jaguars defeated the Hornets, 13-4, on March 21. In that game, South Alabama struck for five runs in the first inning and didn't look back.

The Jaguars, who dropped two of three over the weekend to the defending national champs, Coastal Carolina, will host Mississippi State on Tuesday before entertaining Alabama State on Wednesday.

First pitch on Tuesday against Jacksonville State is set for 6 p.m. at Choccolocco Park in Oxford (Ala.). On Wednesday, first pitch against South Alabama is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.
