CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Alabama State University softball team hits the road for mid-week softball, playing away from home on Tuesday and Wednesday in South Carolina.
Alabama State (11-22) will face Charleston Southern at 3 p.m. (est) on Tuesday, originally scheduled to be a doubleheader but was moved to a single game due to the weather. The Lady Hornets will then face South Carolina State in a doubleheader on Wednesday in Orangeburg (S.C.) beginning at 1 p.m. (est).
Kaylee Davis leads Alabama State in hitting this season, hitting .386 through 28 games and went a perfect 3-for-3 after being moved to the lead-off spot against Alabama A&M Saturday afternoon. The redshirt sophomore hit .417 this past week for Alabama State, and has reached base with 22 hits and two walks this season. She has also scored 13 runs and knocked in four – three of those against Alabama A&M.
Perry Hindi is hitting .344 for the Lady Hornets with eight extra base hits and a .533 slugging percentage. She has recorded 15 runs batted in and scored 22 more for Alabama State. Meanwhile,
Valerie Centeno is hitting .341 with seven extra base hits and is among the nation's leaders in triples with four.
Kendall Core leads the Lady Hornets in power numbers as she has eight home runs and 28 runs batted in, while slugging .632. She is also hitting .326 on the season, while
Alexia Boggess has raised her average to .313 and has eight extra base hits – including a pair of home runs.
Laura Aguilar is just under .300 at .290 with 31 hits, 25 runs scored and hit a walk-off home run against Alabama A&M on Saturday.
Vanessa Bradford (7-7) leads Alabama State on the mound with a .466 earned run average in 22 appearances (18 starts). She is coming off of a complete game shutout of Alabama A&M on Saturday, and has allowed 61 earned runs in 91.2 innings pitches and has recorded 48 strikeouts. Meanwhile,
Justine Jean (3-9) has recorded a 5.29 earned run average in 78 innings pitched and has won two of her last three conference starts.
