MONTGOMERY, Ala. | After picking up their first victory of the season over the weekend, the Alabama State University soccer team hits the road in search of its second consecutive victory as they take on Samford.
Alabama State (1-3) picked up an overtime victory over Southeastern Louisiana after
Inma Martinez knocked home the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 100th minute. Alabama State, who has not led this season in any match, battled from behind twice to tie the match against the Lady Lions.
Ariela Lewis leads Alabama State in goals with a pair, including one against Southeastern Louisiana. She also leads the team points with four, while two other players – Martinez and
Kayla Tillman each have added a goal in the first four matches.
Gianna Guyot has played every minute in goal for the Lady Hornets this season.
Meanwhile, Samford (0-4) looks to win their first match of the season. The Bulldogs dropped their season-opener to Memphis, before pushing fourth-ranked Florida State to the limit in a 4-2 loss. In their last match, Samford dropped a 3-2 decision to Michigan State.
The Bulldogs are led Jermaine Seoposenwe with three goals, while Lexi Orman and Grace Packer each have added one. Seoposenwe leads Samford through four matches with seven points. Meanwhile, Anna Maddox has all but 10 minutes in goal for Samford this year.
