MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University soccer team continues Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play this week, returning home to face both Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University beginning Friday.
Alabama State (4-5, 2-0 SWAC) begins the weekend with a 7 pm match against Texas Southern on Friday, following that up with a 1 pm kick against Prairie View A&M on Sunday.
The Lady Hornets enter the weekend after winning two road games to start conference play against Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State.
The Lady Hornets were able to hold off Alcorn State Friday as the two teams combined for three goals in the final eight minutes of play, with
Ariela Lewis – the reigning SWAC Offensive Player of the Week – scoring the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win.
The Lady Hornets again turned to Lewis against Mississippi Valley State, and she delivered another game-winner in the first half against the Devilettes in the 1-0 victory. In that same contest,
Gianna Guyot recorded her first shutout of the season as she recorded three saves.
Alabama State and Texas Southern will meet for the first time since the Lady Hornets defeated Texas Southern in the tournament semifinals a season ago, before winning the conference championship. The last time Alabama State and Prairie View A&M met, the Lady Hornets were able to come away with a 2-1 victory back on September 23 of last year. Alabama State has won the past three meetings against the Lady Panthers.
