Lady Hornets win three of four matches Saturday

Alabama State goes into Sunday at 5-3 in conference play

DALLAS | Alabama State won three of their four games on day two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Roundup, and head into the final day of games just two behind the leaders.
 
Alabama State (37-22, 5-3 SWAC) started the day with a 976-871 victory over Southern behind a 2134 from Alize Stevenson and a pair of bowlers over 190 – Jessica Sawmiler (193) and Allison Sledge (192) – in the win.
 
The Lady Hornets won their second consecutive game on the day, defeating Texas Southern 819-781 and handing the Lady Tigers their only loss through the first two days. Sledge led the way with 187, while Sawmiller finished with a 182.
 
Following am 8610-782 loss to Prairie View A&M, the Lady Hornets responded with a 914-620 victory over Alabama A&M. In the final match of the day, Miranda Remmel led the way with a 197.
 
Through the first two days of competition, Sledge is currently fifth overall in the standings with an average of 186.25. Remmel follows her closely in seventh with a 180.0 average, while Sawmiller and Haley Young are sitting an average of 178.38 and 176.90, respectively.
 
Meanwhile, Stevenson is fourth among freshman at 172.0 through 10 games.
 
The Lady Hornets conclude play Sunday, returning to the lanes at 9 am.
