PENSACOLA, Fla. | After the opening day of the Rattler Invitational, 22nd-ranked Alabama State stands atop the standings of the eight-team tournament.

Alabama State (43-25) claimed four out of five matches on the opening day of Baker play, totaling 4,571 pins and an average of 182.8. The total number of pins is 392 more pins than second place Texas Southern, who also won four of five matches on the opening day of the tournament.

The Lady Hornets opened play with a 1,035-962 victory over host Florida A&M, before defeating Bethune-Cookman 902-731 in their second match of the day. Alabama State fell to Belmont Abbey in the third match of the day, 865-857, before reeling off a pair of wins to end the day.

Alabama State defeated Texas Southern 873-763, before ending the day with a 904-680 victory over Grambling State.

Play continues Saturday with traditional play with each team participating in five matches, with the Lady Hornets beginning the day against Alabama A&M at 9 am.
