Lady Hornets finish second at Rattler Invitational

Alabama State falls twice to Florida A&M on final day of tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. | Alabama State rolled 19 games on Sunday on the final day of competition in just three matches at the Rattler Invitational, finishing runner-up to the host Rattlers of Florida A&M.
 
Alabama State (48-28) fell in their first match of the day to Florida A&M after battling back from a 2-1 deficit. The 22nd-ranked Lady Hornets won the first game 169-163, before dropping back-to-back games to fall behind; however, they were able to come back and tie the match at 2-all with a 211-154 victory in game four. Florida A&M was able to win game five 256-202, before defeating the Lady Hornets by just four pins (150-146) in the sixth and deciding game.
 
The Lady Hornets advanced to the championship match with a 4-2 victory over conference rival Texas Southern. The two teams split the first four games of the match, alternating wins with Alabama State winning in games one (167-134) and three (191-148) to tie the match at 2-all. The Lady Hornets were able to pull away for a win by winning game five 198-151 and game six, 191-154, to advance to the championship match.
 
In that championship match, Alabama State jumped ahead 2-1 with wins in game one and game three before Florida A&M won the next two to jump ahead 3-2. The Lady Hornets came back to win six by just five pins (194-189) to force a seventh and deciding game for the title. Unfortunately for Alabama State, Florida A&M was able to come away with a 179-156 victory to claim the championship.
 
Alabama State returns to action February 9 at the Mardi Gras Challenge in Baton Rouge (La.).
