HARAHAN, La. | Through the first day of competition at the All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational, Alabama State finds itself 10th in the standings despite winning three of its five matches on the day.
"We struggled to finish today despite leading in four of the five matches but I am confident we will make the needed adjustments and bounce back," Alabama State head coach
Andrew Chatmon said.
Alabama State totaled 4,260 total pins on the opening day of Baker play, an average of 170.4 per match. The Lady Hornets tallied their highest total of the day (884) with a dominating performance against Grambling. Additionally, they picked up wins against (RV) Valparaiso (873-863) and (RV) Southern (797-773) while falling short to Florida A&M (868-906) and No. 16 UAB (838-878).
No. 4 Sam Houston State leads the field after one day with 4,794 total pins. Action resumes tomorrow with five traditional team matches. Play begins at 8:55 a.m.
