HARAHAN, La. | Alabama State won two of three matches in their best-of-seven competition Sunday on the final of the Tulane All-State Sugar Bowl Invitational, finishing eighth overall.

Andrew Chatmon said. "The execution improved, and this tournament will be a great lesson for us moving forward. It will help to identify our weaknesses and areas to improve on, but also helps us to see where are strong at moving forward."
Alabama State (6-7) avenged two earlier losses in the tournament in the first two rounds of elimination play, defeating Florida A&M 4-0 to start the day. The Lady Hornets wasted little time as they jumped out to an early lead with a 183-171 win in the opening game, before winning the second 157-147 to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Alabama State pushed the lead to 3-0 with a 171-166 victory, before running away in the deciding game 207-154.
The Lady Hornets came right back out and defeated Jackson State 4-1 after the teams split the first two games. Alabama State 21 pins in game, before taking a commanding 3-1 lead with a 193-176 victory in game four. In the fifth game, the two teams battled with Alabama State winning by just eight pins (199-191) to advance to the next round.
In their final match of the tournament, Alabama State fell 4-2 to Valparaiso after leading through the first three games of the match. The finish by Alabama State was the highest of team from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on the weekend, and the Lady Hornets finished with an average of 173.8.
Alabama State returns to action at the Track Kat Klash in two weeks in Huntsville (Texas), an event hosted by fourth-ranked Sam Houston State.
