BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State closed out the fall portion of the schedule with several wins at the Pelham Racquet Club Collegiate Invite after weather forced the final tournament inside over the weekend.
In doubles play, the Hornets finished with a trio of victories led by the team
Ion Efrim and
Alexis Collard who picked up a pair of wins in three matches. Meanwhile, the team of
Tomas Fernandez and
Carl-Louis Luckmann also picked up a win in doubles play, as each of the teams played three matches over the weekend.
In singles play, Efrim finished with a pair of victories in Flight A, beginning with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Roussow Norval of Samofrd. He finished off play in the tournament with a hard-fought three-set victory (3-6, 6-4, 6-2) victory over Gregor Ramskogler of Mississippi State. In Flight B singles,
Alexis Collard finished the fall with a pair of wins in three matches. He defeated Sebastian Osorio 2-6, 6-2, 6-3; before defeating Fernando Vargas of UAB 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Chris Andre also won a pair of matches over the weekend, winning both in straight sets for the Hornets, while
Alejo Calvis picked up a win before losing to his teammate Andre to close out play in the tournament.
Alabama State will return to action in January to open up the spring season as the two-time defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion.
