@BamaStateBowl knocks off Alabama A&M, records sixth-place finish at Sonic Boom Invitational

Lady Hornets host ISTAP Hornet Classic this weekend

JACKSON, MISS. | Alabama State finished sixth overall at the Sonic Boom Invitational while No. 17 Louisiana Tech took home its second team title of 2018.

Despite two difficult setbacks on Sunday, Alabama State amassed the second-highest pin count (3,099) in the final round, trailing only Southern's 3,253.

In Sunday's final bracket style round, the Lady Hornets dismantled Alabama A&M. The closest match between the two foes came in game 1 (203-174) while the other four matches were easy wins for Alabama State (194-124; 233-149; 193-130). Tiarra Wilkins continued her strong play, leading the Lady Hornets on Sunday with a cumulative 680, including a game-high 246 pins during the tournament's final match against Southern University.

Alabama State averaged 175.1 pins per game over the weekend and needed to average just a shade over five more pins a contest to break into the top five. The Lady Hornets picked up five more wins in 13 tries to bring their season total to 15 wins.

The Lady Hornets will host the ISTAP Hornet Classic this Friday, November 16, in their final tournament of the fall.
