MONTGOMERY, ALA. | Alabama State posted its strongest performance of the season on the opening day of the Hornet Classic en route to a 4-1 record.
The Lady Hornets (19-25) took down No. 16 UAB (972 - 935) and Jackson State (921 - 915) in addition to wins over Grambling State (895 - 633) and Florida A&M (890 - 865). Alabama State's lone blemish on the day came against No. 17 Louisiana Tech (844 – 906).
"It was a good first day, defeating Jackson State and nationally ranked UAB, but we still have room to improve," Alabama State head coach
Andrew Chatmon said.
Alabama State finished the day with 4,522 total pins, the third-highest total in the eight team field. UAB (4,805) and La. Tech (4,776) currently hold the top two spots.
Action continues tomorrow with traditional-style play beginning at 9:45 am.
