MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State will host the annual Black and Gold Tournament at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex beginning Friday and running through Sunday.
The tournament will feature seven other schools and will be run at two different sites, Alabama State and Fain Park. The other schools in the tournament include Middle Tennessee State, Holy Cross, Fort Wayne, Nicholls State, UT-Martin, Akron and Appalachian State.
Alabama State (1-2) will play their first home game of the season Friday night, hosting Akron at 7:30 pm at the Barbara Williams Complex. The game will be the fifth of the day at the complex, which begins play at 9:30 am Friday morning, with Fain Park getting underway at 12 noon.
The Lady Hornets opened the season in the Troy Invitational, where they dropped their first two games before winning their finale against Tennessee State 5-4.
Charlene Castro and
Vanessa Bradford were named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Players of the Week for their performances in that tournament.
