Alabama State heads to Mississippi for SWAC Roundup

Lady Hornets are currently ranked 22nd in national poll

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State, the defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion, heads to Mississippi this weekend to take part in the SWAC East Roundup held at Cypress Lanes in D'Iberville.

The tournament is one of just two remaining on the schedule before the SWAC Championships, and the Lady Hornets have not been in action since FAMU Rattler Invitational in which they finished runner-up two weeks ago.

Alabama State (48-28) will face Prairie View A&M to begin the weekend, followed by Alabama A&M, Grambling State and Jackson State on the opening day. On the second day (Saturday), the Lady Hornets will face Southern, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M and Alabama A&M. They will conclude the weekend with matches against Grambling State, Jackson State, Southern and Texas Southern.

The tournament will not follow the format that the first four tournaments have followed, as each day will be traditional play. The tournament will begin on Friday at 10 am with five traditional matches, and resumes Saturday with the same schedule. The final day of the tournament, Sunday, will begin at 9 am and feature four matches.
