D'IBERVILLE, Miss. | Alabama State swept through the opening day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) East Roundup Friday afternoon, winning by an average of 180 pins in the four matches.
Alabama State (52-28, 11-5 SWAC) opened the day with a 973-963 victory over Prairie View A&M, the closest match of the day for the Lady Hornets. They followed that up with a 909-668 victory over Alabama A&M, before recording their best finish of the day in a 1071-739 victory over Grambling State.
The Lady Hornets ended the day with a 925-788 victory over Jackson State to finish the day undefeated.
Alabama State is two games back of Texas Southern and Jackson State through the first 16 conference matches of the season, but lead in total pins at 17,197. The Lady Hornets are averaging 181.0 per game through the first 16 matches.
Individually,
Jessica Sawmiller is fourth in the conference with an average of 183.8 with 3,493 tota pins. Four other Lady Hornets are in the top 10 this season including
Haley Young (183.6), Tiarra Watkins (183.4),
Allison Sledge (183.0) and
Gabrielle Hosein (181.9).
Alize Stevenson leads all freshman with a 179.1 average through 19 games and she has also recorded a freshman-leading 3,402 pins.
