MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State begins a streak of 16 consecutive games away from home as they travel to Hattiesburg (Miss.) to face Southern Miss Wednesday night.
Alabama (4-4) enters the game after a weekend in which they played five games in the three-day period. The Lady Hornets started the weekend with a pair of wins, before picking up another on Sunday.
Over the weekend,
Casey Durham was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) hitter of the week after she hit .412 (7-of-13) in five games, while scoring five runs. She also drove in five more, while having two extra base hits (double and triple) over the weekend.
For the season, Durham leads Alabama State in hitting at .455 with 10 hits and eight runs batted in; while
Amira James is hitting .400 with seven runs scored and four runs batted in. Two other Lady Hornets are hitting over .300 through the first eight games –
Taylor Rosser (.364) and
Kristin Gunter (.304).
As a pitching staff, Alabama State has recorded a 4.00 earned run average through the first eight games with
Vanessa Bradford yielding a sub-one ERA at 0.93 in five appearances.
The game is scheduled to begin at 6 pm and will be broadcast by C-USA-TV.
