Alabama State set to host pair of midweek non-conference games

Hornets look to bounce back from series loss to Alabama A&M

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State looks to bounce back from their series loss in conference play this weekend with a pair of non-conference games at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex beginning Tuesday afternoon.

Alabama State (9-6) steps out of conference to face Florida A&M (8-12) Tuesday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4 pm, before facing Samford (7-10) Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 6 pm.

The Hornets head in the week off a series loss to Alabama A&M, their first series loss to the Bulldogs since April 2015 in conference play. The series was also was just the third conference series dropped by Alabama State since the 2015 season, and just the fifth since 2013.

Alabama State will send freshman Channing Walker (0-0, 6.00 ERA) to the mound in the week's first game against the Rattlers. Walker has appeared out of the bullpen on two occasions this season, against Southern and Alabama, and combined on a one-hitter with five strikeouts in two innings of work in his collegiate debut. He will go up against a Florida A&M offense hitting .284 as a team through 20 games, and is led Kaycee Reese hitting .368 on the year with 21 hits.

The senior suffered the loss in relief against Alabama A&M on Saturday, and will be making his third start this season and second at home. He will countered by freshman Scott Strickland (2-0, 1.08 ERA) for the Bulldogs who come into the game hitting .243 in 17 games.
