MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State will host 23rd-ranked Mississippi State at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex, with first pitch scheduled for 5 pm.
Admission is free to all home softball games.
Taylor Rosser leads the team in hitting at a .346 clip, having played last at the HBCU Classic two weeks ago. She currently has nine runs scored, three home runs and 10 runs batted in – tied for the team lead in home runs. Meanwhile,
Charlene Castro is hitting .329 with a team-high 20 runs batted in, while Kristin Gunter is hitting .317 with 17 runs scored this season.
Hailey Walker and
Amira James are tied with Castro and Rosser for the team lead in home runs with three each on the season.
As a team, the Lady Hornets are hitting .268 with 215 hits – which include 70 extra bases hits. Of those extra base hits, 16 are for home runs through 32 games for Alabama State.
Vanessa Bradford (2-5) leads the pitching staff with a 3.72 earned run average starting in seven of her 11 appearances. She has logged 46 innings while striking out 34. Meanwhile,
Justine Jean (4-7) has started a team-high 14 games this season, while logging a team-high 73.1 innings pitched and recording 35 strikeouts.
Mississippi State, as a team, is hitting .325 with 282 total hits for the season. Freshman Mia Davidson is leading the Bulldogs in hitting at .429, with 33 runs scored and 11 home runs. She also has driven in 31 runs this season, while six other Bulldogs are hitting over .300. The Bulldogs pitching staff has recorded a 1.36 earned run average in 33 games this season.
The game with Mississippi State will be the second opponent from the SEC this season, falling to Auburn earlier last week. They will end the season on the road at Ole Miss. The Lady Hornets also played Auburn in Montgomery last season, moving their game to Lagoon Park.
