MONTGOMERY, Ala. | With just three conference series remaining, Alabama State is set to host their final Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) home series beginning Friday night against Alabama A&M.
Alabama State (17-15, 11-4 SWAC) looks to avenge its only conference series loss of the season as Alabama A&M (7-26, 4-11 SWAC) claimed two of three in Huntsville. The Hornets won the opening game before dropping the last two in the series, the first series win for Alabama A&M since 2015 against Alabama State.
The Hornets will send
Dalton Wilder (1-3, 2.12 ERA) to the mound Friday night in the opener, a week after he did not factor in the decision against Alcorn State in a 6-5 (11 inning) victory on the road. Wilder picked up his first win of the season with 8.2 innings of work two weeks ago against Mississippi Valley State, a game in which he took a no-hitter in to the eighth inning and claimed SWAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
They will send
Darrius Wright to the mound (5-1, 2.61 ERA) to the hill Saturday night in the second game of the series. The junior did not factor in the decision against Alabama A&M in their first meeting, and comes into the weekend following a victory over Alcorn State. The Hornets will end the series with
Gage Dollar (3-2, 4.33 ERA) off a win over Alcorn State, with the freshman dropping the series finale against Alabama A&M.
Ray Hernandez leads Alabama State in just about statistical offensive category, including hitting .345 with 40 hits and seven home runs. He also has 27 runs batted in and is slugging .569, and has nine stolen bases.
Chris Lewis is second on the team in hitting at .340, while also registering an on-base percentage of .514.
Joseph Estrada is hitting .328 in 119 official at-bats with a team-high three triples, while
Noel Cheneau is hitting .323 with eight extra base hits on the season.
The series begins at 6 pm Friday night, with Senior Weekend activities scheduled for Sunday afternoon. All three games will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network.
