MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road for a key Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against Alcorn State beginning with a doubleheader Friday afternoon.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play a single game Friday, but that game has been moved to Saturday due to the weather forcasted for the area. Alabama State (16-22, 6-3 SWAC) enters the weekend after a doubleheader sweep of South Carolina State Wednesday on the road, following a week in which they did not play due to weather in Huntsville.
Alabama State and Alcorn State last met in 2017, when the Lady Braves came to Montgomery and completed a sweep on their way to the SWAC East Division title.
Kristin Gunter leads the team in hitting at .317 with a pair of home runs and 16 runs batted in, while
Kaylee Davis is hitting .315 on the season.
Justine Jean (8-8, 8.97 ERA) leads the team with 96.1 innings pitched in 25 appearances, with 17 starts.
Vanessa Bradford (2-5, 3.72 ERA) has 34 strikeouts in 46 innings, while
Charlene Castro (3-2, 6.86 ERA) has 23.
The two teams will begin the series at 1 pm Friday afternoon.
