MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road this week for a non-conference doubleheader against South Carolina State Wednesday.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader on Monday, but weather up the east coast has pushed it back to a Wednesday doubleheader.
Alabama State (14-22, 6-3 SWAC) enters the day after sweeping Mississippi Valley State on Easter weekend, winning game one 10-5 and following that up with a pair of wins on Saturday (9-4 and 8-0).
Vanessa Bradford leads Alabama State in hitting at a .350 clip with 10 runs batted in, while
Kristin Gunter is hitting .319 with a pair of homeruns and 16 runs batted in. Meanwhile,
Casey Durham is hitting .318 with 21 runs scored and another 14 batted in.
Justine Jean (5-8, 9.78 ERA) leads the team with 88.0 innings pitched in 23 appearances (with 16 starts).
Vanessa Bradford (2-5, 3.72 ERA) has 34 strikeouts in 46.0 innings pitched, while
Charlene Castro (3-2, 7.11 ERA) leads the team with a pair of saves.
The Lady Hornets and South Carolina State (1-19, 1-5 MEAC) met previously this season at the HBCU Invitational where Alabama State claimed an 11-1 victory.
The doubleheader begins at 1 pm Wednesday, with the second game slated to start at 3 pm.
