Cross country releases 2018 schedule

Women looking for seventh title In eight years

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University head cross country coach Ritchie Beene has released his team's 2018 schedule, which features four meets in the state of Alabama.
 
The Hornets will open their five-meet season on Aug. 31 at the Struts Season Opener in Oxford, Ala., hosted by Jacksonville State University. Alabama State will then travel to the port city of Mobile, Ala. for the Azalea City Classic on Sept. 7.
 
The teams will compete for a third consecutive week and the first Saturday meet of the season, Sept. 15, at the Falcon Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo. Following a week off, the two teams return to action on September 29 at the Foothill Invite in Oxford, Ala. The teams will have another week off before the final regular season meet with the FSU Invitational on October 12 in Tallahassee, Fla.
 
The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship meet on October 22 will be the second trip out of state for the Hornets, who will be traveling to Clinton, Miss. for the event. Following the championship, and based upon qualifying, the postseason begins with the NCAA South Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. on November 9.
 
The NCAA Championships will be hosted by Louisville on November 17.
 
The Lady Hornets are in search of their seventh title in eight years, after their six-year streak of conference championships was snapped in 2017. Meanwhile, the men will look to improve on a fourth place finish from a season ago and are in search of their first conference title since 2008.
