JONESBORO, Ark. | Alabama State put an exclamation on a weekend marked by steady improvement at the Mid-Winter Classic as the Lady Hornets posted a perfect 3-0 mark in Sunday's competition.
"The ladies put on a solid performance today. It was a great way to end the weekend and build some momentum going into the SWAC Round Up next week," Alabama State head coach
Andrew Chatmon said.
Alabama State (30-35) finished the weekend with six wins and seven losses and improved two positions in the final standings following Sunday's showing. The Lady Hornets took down Texas Southern (4-2), Kentucky Wesleyan (4-0) and Jackson State (4-1) on the final day of competition.
Alabama State defeated Texas Southern behind two, plus-200 games (224-191, 200-153) and scores of 181 and 177.
The Lady Hornets then cruised to an easy sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan by scores of: 164-157, 193-162, 168-162 and 192-165. After Jackson State took the opening game of the day's final match, Alabama State ripped off four consecutive wins (210-174, 171-135, 178-152 and 189-175).
ALABAMA STATE WEEKEND NOTABLES
- Freshman Bailee Chapman was Alabama State's highest finisher (41st overall) with an average of 184.00 pins per match
- Alize Stevenson (55th) averaged 173.60 pins per match and Allison Sledge (66th) notched an average score of 160.00
THE FIELD
- Vanderbilt swept host Arkansas State in the championship match to take home the top seed
- McKendree and Stephen F. Austin finished third and fourth, respectively
- Bailey Delrose (Maryville) was the top individual performer with an average score of 217.80
