TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Alabama State competed against the largest field in recent memory at the FSU Invitational Friday morning, recording top 13 finishes for both programs.
On the women's side, Alabama State finished 11th with 307 total points as they competed against nationally ranked teams Florida and Florida State.
Arion Span was the top finisher for Alabama State, crossing the line 32nd overall with a time of 18:38.90, while
Shayla Sanders finished in the top 75 with a time of 19:41.60.
Vinnelle Grant led a group of four runners for the Lady Hornets across the line under 21 minutes, finishing in a time of 20:00.60. She was followed by closely by teammate
Michaela Lewis in a time of 20:05.30.
Hannah Mezidor (20:26.80) and
Mariyah Archibald (20:27.10) rounded out the runners for Alabama State.
Meanwhile, on the men's side in the 8k, Alabama State finished 13th overall with 352 points as they competed against nationally ranked teams including meet champion Florida.
Abdi Hussein led the Hornets, finishing 39th overall in a time of 26:14.80; while
Matthew Kibet finished inside the top 75 in a time of 26:45.40.
Daniel Quizon ran a time of 26:56.20, followed by teammate
Brandon Phillips in 29:13.20.
Lovensky Demelieu finished in a time of 29:24.40; while a pair of runners ran a sub-31-minute race to round out the competition.
Alabama State returns to action October 21 at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships in Clinton (Miss.).
