@BamaStateBowl wins pair of games on opening day of season

NEW ORLEANS, La. | After dropping three games to start the All State Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational, Alabama State rebounded with a pair of games to close out the opening day of the season-opening tournament.

Alabama State (2-3) dropped matches in Baker play to Lincoln Memorial (909-902), Southern (863-764) and UAB (917-849) to start the tournament. However, they were able to rebound later in the day to pick up wins over Valparaiso (989-949) and Tusculum (952-947) to end the day.

The Hornets finished the day 12th overall in total pins with 4,438 and finished with a 177.5 average in Baker play. They have the second-highest number of pins among the five schools from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), trailing only Jackson State who finished with 4,638 pins on the first day.

Alabama State will begin traditional play Saturday morning against Stephen F. Austin, currently fifth overall with 4,776 pins (191.0 average).
