MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State looks to get back on track after a pair of road losses to open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play last week, hosting Jackson State and Southern in a pair of matches at the ASU Soccer Complex beginning Friday night.
Alabama State (1-10, 0-2 SWAC), who has won a pair of conference championships and reached the semifinals in each of the last three years, dropped a pair of matches to Grambling State and UAPB to open conference play.
The contest against Jackson State kicks off at 6 pm Friday night, and Southern at 1 pm Sunday afternoon. Admission is free to all home soccer games.
Team Leaders
Isabella Beortegui, who was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago, leads the Hornets with five goals (10 points) on the season.
Meanwhile,
McKenna Wiscombe leads the team in assists with three (while adding a goal), while
Meaghan Fielding has added a goal and a pair of assists.
Scouting the Opponent
Jackson State (0-9, 0-1 SWAC) enters Friday night's contest after a loss to Howard to open their conference schedule. Patricia Calderon leads the Tigers in goals this season.
Meanwhile, Southern (1-7, 0-1 SWAC) enters the match this weekend after falling to Howard and will play at Alabama A&M Friday night.
