@BamaStateBowl finishes 10th in season-opening tournament

NEW ORLEANS, La. | Alabama State picked up a pair of wins on the final day of the All State Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational Sunday, finishing 10th overall.

Alabama State (6-7) picked up a 4-0 win over Valparaiso to start the day, winning all four games in the match by eight or more pins. They claimed a 215-205 victory in the first game, before winning the second 188-175. They continued their play with a 206-157 win in the third frame to build an overall 3-0 lea in the best of seven series, before closing it out with a 168-159 victory in the fourth game.

In one of the better contested matches of the tournament, Alabama State and Jackson State went to seven games in the second round. After Jackson State took a 2-1 lead following a 176-175 win in the third game, Alabama State answered back with a 219-178 victory in the fourth to tie the match at 2-all. After the two teams tied in the fifth, the Hornets took a 3-2 lead with a one-pin win (174-173) before Jackson State forced a final game.

Alabama State moved on in the tournament with an 87-73 victory in the final game of the series to face Stephen F. Austin. The Hornets fell behind 2-0 early before winning the third game (200-187) and the fourth game (178-154) to tie the match. However, Stephen F. Austin claimed the final two games to finish ninth in the tournament.

Alabama State returns to action at the Track Kat Klash, hosted by Sam Houston State, on November 1.
