HOUSTON, Texas | Alabama State dropped four matches on the opening day of the Track Kat Klash, with three of those matches coming against nationally ranked opponents.
Alabama State (7-11) started the day against fifth-ranked Sam Houston State, falling to the host team 908-881; before picking up their lone win of the day over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Jackson State, 922-823.
After falling to Upper Iowa (847-808), Alabama State fell to fourth-ranked Nebraska (1106-821) and eighth-ranked North Carolina A&T (1039-830) to close out the day. The Hornets are currently 13th overall with 4,262 pins and an average of 170.5.
Alabama State will begin traditional play Saturday morning against 20th-ranked Duquesne on the second day of the tournament. They are also scheduled to face SWAC foes Southern and Texas Southern, as well as third-ranked Stephen F. Austin and 17th-ranked Louisiana Tech.
