JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State finished sixth overall on the final day of the Sonic Boom Invitational dropping their three matches in bracket play Sunday.
Alabama State (18-21) began their Sunday against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Texas Southern where they fell 4-1. After dropping the first two games of the seven-game series (201-134, 246-222), the Hornets bounced back to take game three (200-158). However, that would be the only game they would take in that series, dropping the final two games (187-169, 221-168).
In the second round of play, the Hornets faced Drury and fell 4-1. Alabama State fell behind 3-0 (207-189, 197-174, 199-196) before taking the fourth game (190-140). Drury finished of the match and the series in the fifth game (176-147).
In the final match of the day, Alabama State faced another SWAC opponent in Southern where they again fell 4-1. The Jaguars and Hornets split the first two games of the series (168-165 Southern, 213-174 Alabama State), before Southern would take command of the series winning the final three games (204-176, 173-164, 200-166).
Alabama State will return home for the ISTAP Hornet Classic scheduled to begin November 15 at Brunswick Zone in Montgomery (Ala.).
