MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State, fresh off their Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship on the women's side, will hit the course for the first time in nearly a month at the NCAA South Regionals.

Alabama State will run on a course they are familiar with in Tallahassee (Fla.) having competed in the FSU Invitational earlier this season.

The last time the Hornets took to the course was back in October at the SWAC championships they had three runners finish inside the top 10. The Hornets had six runners finish inside the top 20, including Arion Span who finished as the conference runner-up. She came across in a time of 18:57.68, finishing behind eventual champion Naomi Kiprop of Grambling State (18:36.03) and ahead of Mercy Chebet of Jackson State (19:01.76).

She was followed in the top 10 by teammate Shayla Sanders in seventh place with a time of 19:45.91, just 11 seconds out of a top five finish. Mariyah Archibald (20:08.33) and Michaela Lewis (20:12.78) finished just four seconds apart in 10th and 11th place respectively.

Hannah Mezidor and Vinnelle Grant rounded out the top 20 for the Lady Hornets, with Mezidor finishing 16th in a time of 20:21.83 and Grant 17th in a time 20:28.15.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, Abdi Hussein led the Hornets across the line, finishing eighth in a time of 26:49.80 – just over a second out of seventh place.

All of those runners will be hitting the course Friday morning and the last time they took to the course in Tallahassee, Span was the top finisher for Alabama State, crossing the line 32nd overall with a time of 18:38.90, while Sanders finished in the top 75 with a time of 19:41.60.

Grant led a group of four runners for the Lady Hornets across the line under 21 minutes, finishing in a time of 20:00.60. She was followed by closely by teammate Lewis in a time of 20:05.30. Mezidor (20:26.80) and Archibald (20:27.10) rounded out the runners for Alabama State.

On the men's side in the 8k, Hussein led the Hornets, finishing 39th overall in a time of 26:14.80.
