MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State picked up three wins on the opening day of the ISTAP Hornet Classic, including a pair of wins against conference opponents, Friday at Bowlero.
Alabama State (21-23) started the day with a win against Kentucky Wesleyan by a total pinfall of 921-867, before they split their next games against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponents Alabama A&M and Grambling State. The Hornets dropped an 874-854 contest against Alabama A&M, before bouncing back with an 876-633 victory over Grambling State.
The Hornets split their final two matches of the day, beginning with a loss to conference foe Southern (898-751), before defeating Jackson State in their final match of the day (875-812). Alabama State sits fourth overall in the standings after day one with 4,277 pins – less than 400 pins behind the leader Florida A&M.
The tournament will continue Saturday with traditional play, and admission is free.
