MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State reeled off four straight wins on the second day of the ISTAP Hornet Classic to move into second place overall moving into the final day of competition.
Alabama State (25-24) started the day falling to Florida A&M 949-874 before beginning a streak that would last the remainder of the day. The run began with a nearly 500-pin win over Bethune-Cookman, recording a 1,031-673 win to improve to .500 on the day. They followed that match up with a narrow 884-880 win over Kentucky Wesleyan to improve to 2-1 on the day.
The streak continued in the fourth match, defeating Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and in-state foe Alabama A&M 1,051-736. The match with the Bulldogs was the second 1,000-pin performance of the day for the Hornets, before they defeated another conference opponent in Grambling State 888-617 to finish the four-match winning streak.
Alabama State started the day in fourth place but due in large part to the 1,000-pin matches and the performances of
Gabrielle Hosein,
Miranda Remmel,
Bailee Chapman and
Alize Stevenson with top-20 performances; the Hornets moved up to second.
The ISTAP Hornet Classic concludes Sunday with best-of-seven play at Bowlero, and admission is free.
