@BamaStateBowl finishes third at ISTAP Hornet Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State finished third overall at the ISTAP Hornet Classic after entering the final day of the tournament in second place.

Alabama State (26-26) began the day against Florida A&M, falling 4-3 in the best-of-seven series after dropping the first two games of the series (236-218 / 195-186). However, they bounced back to take the next three games of the series (190-151 / 226-160 / 204-196) to take a 3-2 overall lead. After Florida A&M tied the series with a 184-173 victory, the Rattlers were able to pull out a 12-pin victory (213-201) to pull out the win.

The Hornets fell into the next round to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Jackson State 4-2. The two teams split the first four games in the series, before Jackson State claimed the final two (207-189 / 201-141) for the win.

In the final match of the day, Alabama State defeated Kentucky Wesleyan to wrap up the tournament. The Hornets fell behind 2-0 before tying the series up with wins in the third (170-131) and fourth (176-150) game of the series. They were able to pull away for the win with wins in the final two games of the series (185-172 / 205-170).

The Hornets finished with three bowlers in the top five of the tournament, led by Alize Stevenson at the top of the leaderboard with a 21.0 average. She was followed by Gabrielle Hosein with an average of 201.6 in second place, and Miranda Remmel in fifth with an average of 186.6.

Alabama State will return to play after the New Year when they hit the road to play in the SWAC West Roundup in Dallas beginning January 17.
