@BamaStateBowl defeats defending national champion

HOUSTON, Texas | Alabama State won three matches on the second day of the Track Kat Klash, including defeating the defending national champion in the process.

Alabama State (10-13) began the second day of competition falling to Duquesne 945-865 in traditional play, before bouncing back with a pair of wins over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foes Texas Southern and Southern to give the Hornets three wins over conference competition on the weekend. They were able to beat Southern 802-777, before putting together one of their better performances of the year against Texas Southern in a 1,003-932 win.

The Hornets recorded their third win of the day over third-ranked and defending national champion Stephen F. Austin, 950-936, before falling to 17th-ranked Louisiana Tech (930-803).

Alabama State remained 13th overall with 8,685 pins through two days including 4,423 pins in traditional play Saturday. They have also rolled an average of 173.7 through the first two days of competition.

Miranda Remmel finished in the top 20 individually, out of 130 bowlers, with 201.40 average which is 15th overall. Bailee Chapman finished 35th overall with an average of 181.20, while Alize Stevenson was 37th overall with a 180.40 average.

Alabama State returns to action Sunday in the best of seven series against Texas Southern.
