MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home after a four-game road swing, playing host to Eastern Illinois in a pair of midweek contests beginning Tuesday night.
Alabama State (9-6) will host Eastern Illinois at the Wheeler-Watkins Complex Tuesday at 6 pm, and then again Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm. Tickets are available for each home game by contacting the Alabama State University Ticket Office at (334) 229-4551, and will be available at the gate for $5 each game.
The Hornets split their four games this week, dropping their two non-conference games before winning a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests over Alcorn State. The final game of the five-game road swing was postponed Sunday due to weather, and will be made up when the two teams meet in Montgomery later this year.
Alabama State will send
Gage Dollar (1-1, 10.80 ERA) to the mound Tuesday night in the opener against Foster Anshutz (1-0, 1.80 ERA) of Eastern Illinois. Meanwhile, the Hornets will send
Alexander Castro (0-1, 12.15 ERA) to the mound Wednesday afternoon to face Jesse Wainscott (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
The Hornets have scored in double digits this season offensively in nine games, posting an 8-1 record in those games with their only loss coming in extra innings to Mississippi Valley State. They have also held opponents to three or fewer runs three times this season.
Eriq White leads the team in hitting, coming in at a .385 clip with 25 hits on the season. He has scored 20 runs and knocked in another 18, while recording eight extra base hits through 15 games. Meanwhile,
Noel Cheneau is second on the team in hitting at .373 with 12 runs scored and 25 hits. He has recorded 10 extra base hits – including leading the nation in triples with four, and is currently fourth in the nation in runs batted in with 26.
Meanwhile,
Yamil Pagan leads the team with 28 runs scored – which is good for third in the nation – and is hitting .352 on the season. He has recorded 19 hits – including four home runs – and has driven in 18 runs.
Darren Kelly (1-0) leads the team on the mound with a 0.55 earned run average, allowing just one earned run in 16.1 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts.
Jeremy Rivera (2-1) has made five appearances out of the bullpen this season and has recorded a 2.84 earned run average in 12.2 innings.
