MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State looks to get back on track after back-to-back losses this week, returning to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play against in-state rival Alabama A&M Friday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Alabama State (9-8, 4-1 SWAC) and the Bulldogs will meet in a three-game set with the first pitch scheduled for 6 pm Friday night. Admission is $5 for all home baseball games held at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
The Hornets dropped back-to-back games to Eastern Illinois in midweek contests this week, but look to improve on their three-game winning streak in conference play. Alabama State has won four of their five conference games, with their only loss coming in extra innings. They have scored in double figures in all five of their conference games thus this far this season, and are currently eighth in country in runs (8.7).
Darrius Wright (2-0, 9.45 ERA) will take the mound Friday looking for his second consecutive victory in conference play, while
Darren Kelly (1-0, 0.55 ERA) will take the mound against Alabama A&M for the first time since suffering his arm injury against the Bulldogs last season.
Ricardo Rivera (1-1, 6.45 ERA) will take the mound in Sunday's series finale.
Offensively,
Eriq White leads the way for the Hornets hitting .375 with 27 hits – including eight extra base hits. He has also scored 23 runs and knocked in another 20, while
Yamil Pagan is in the top 10 in the country in runs scored with 28 and is hitting .328.
Noel Cheneau is in the top 10 in the nation in RBI and is hitting .325 on the season, while
Chris Lewis has seen his average climb to .300 over the last week.
