@BamaStateBowl finishes third in last regular season tournament

Lady Hornets play in conference tournament next weekend

D'IBERVILLE, Miss. | Alabama State finished third in their final regular season tournament, defeating Southern twice on the final day of the TNBA/HBCU Invitational hosted by Jackson State University.

Alabama State (77-51) opened the final day of the tournament with a 4-0 victory over Southern to move into the a match-up with top-seeded Florida A&M. The Lady Hornets captured the first three games against Southern, before the two were tied at 181-all to force another series. In the fifth and final series, Alabama State moved on with a 173-154 victory.

Against Florida A&M, the Lady Hornets fell behind 2-0 early before winning game three 224-184 before Florida A&M went up 3-1 with a win in the fourth game. However, Alabama State battled back and won back-to-back games (209-168 / 184-177), before Florida A&M moved to the championship match with a 224-181 win in the final game.

The Lady Hornets faced Southern for the second time on the day, this time in the consolation match and came away with a 4-2 victory. After splitting the first two games, the Lady Hornets won the next two to take a 3-1 lead, before Southern took game five 235-193. Alabama State put the match away in the sixth game with a 233-197 victory.

Alabama State will head west for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships next weekend, with a berth to the NCAA Championships on the line.
