@BamaStateBB begins five game road trip in Kentucky

Hornets will play midweek series at Morehead State, before conference series at Jackson State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State begins a five game road trip Tuesday afternoon in Morehead (Ky.), facing the Eagles of Morehead State at Allen Field in a non-conference midweek series.

Alabama State (11-9) will be playing midweek for the fourth time this season, and second consecutive time in a midweek series. The Hornets are in search of their first midweek win of the season, and are on the road for the second week during the midweek. The last time the Hornets were on the road in a midweek series came against ninth-ranked Georgia and Samford two weeks ago.

The Hornets enter the contest fresh off a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series win victory at home over Alabama A&M. After dropping the first game of the series, Alabama State run-ruled Alabama A&M in the second game, before winning 6-5 on Sunday afternoon.

This year's series was originally scheduled to be played in Montgomery, however, last year's series was moved from Morehead down south due to snow in Kentucky. That forced the series to revert back to Morehead. In that series in Montgomery last season, the Eagles were able to win both over Alabama State at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

Eriq White leads an offensive attack for the Hornets that has five batters over .300 this season and has produced 59 extra base hits and 169 runs through 20 games this season. The redshirt junior is hitting. 417 this season with 35 hits – including eight extra base hits and has accounted for 51 runs (29 scored / 22 RBI). Meanwhile, Yamil Pagan leads the team in runs scored with 30 and is hitting .338 on the season with a team-high four home runs.

Noel Cheneau has driven in a team-high 26 runs this season, and his hitting ,326 with 10 extra base hits (four doubles / four triples / two home runs). Santiago Garcia is hitting .315 with 24 runs batted in and is third on the team in hits with 28; while Chris Lewis is hitting .304 with 17 hits and 15 runs scored.

The Hornets have used four different starting pitchers during the midweek series, including last week with Gage Dollar (1-2, 12.08 ERA) and Alexander Castro (0-2, 14.09 ERA).

First pitch for Tuesday is 3:00 pm, with the two teams meeting 12 pm Wednesday. Both games will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch, with the game Wednesday being aired on ESPN+.
